Greetings fellow light workers!
In the words of Henry David Thoreau, "Winter, with
inwardness, is upon us. Man is constrained to sit down and
to think." My husband Chris, a big Thoreau fan, tells me this
is why we did well in choosing Boston College, our alma
mater.
However, as a plein air painter, nothing is more
discouraging than the cold. Its hard to get any work done.
Friends have generously shared their secrets for keeping
warm outdoors: those little hand warmer packets sold at
Lowes, painting next to a building, wearing dark clothing to
absorb the sunlight. All good ideas, but no matter how
warm, I'm still cold. The only thing that keeps me painting
outdoors in this weather is the prospect of painting snow,
always an elusive substance.
So I've been painting indoors, working on a few portraits,
and counting the days. Happy painting!
