March brings my favorite activity outside of painting: teaching other people to paint! It's hard to believe - but nevertheless true - that people will come to hear me ramble on about light effects, the prismatic palette, atmospheric conditions, and the like. I spend a lot of time talking about the tradition handed down to us in painting, being reflective about my own experience, and carefully attending to the thoughts and reflections of others.
My ramblings might be suspect, but my teaching philosophy is simple. I want to hear your story - how you came to art, or how it came to you, what is important to you, and what personal meaning art might impart to you. Painting takes the whole person: emotions, intellect, vision, passion. We are all in this discovery together. Teaching gives us the chance to share the abundance of gifts given to us. It is my belief that painting will lead us to a deeper knowledge of our lives, and if we are lucky, give us something we can give away.
