This month I plan to visit the Salmagundi Club for the Combined Members Exhibition. I've put in a painting for the show, which was juried in, thank goodness! The Salmugundi Club has great sentimental value to me, as my mother was a member some 20 years ago. A longstanding tradition, the Members Show is a showcase of the club's talent, and is among the most anticipated exhibition on the club's calendar.
If you're in the city after December 5th, I have a small sketch in the Thumb Box exhibition that follows.
If you've never been to the Salmagundi Club, the holidays are the time to visit. Their galleries in the East Village are open to the public. It is truly a step back in time, with many American Masters as past members. Aside from some magnificent 19th century paintings, my personal favorite piece of memorabilia is George Inness's palette (hanging on the wall near the front desk)! Cool!
